Samsung has branded its Milk VR 360-degree video platform as Samsung VR and has added the ability to upload user-generated content.
“Creators can load their own 360-degree videos to the Samsung VR platform for sharing and for the first time view them in Samsung Gear VR,” the company said in an announcement this week.
The company also announced the launch of its Gear 360 video camera, which will sell for $349.99. It was available for purchase on a limited basis during VidCon this week and will be distributed more widely later on in the year.
Samsung also announced the launch of Samsung Creators, an initiative to promote the development of 360-degree and VR videos.
“We want to bring the power of VR technology directly to the people,†said Samsung Electronics America’s Chief Marketing Officer Marc Mathieu in the announcement. “To help creators learn and perfect the art of VR storytelling, we’ve built an entire VR ecosystem that pushes beyond the frame and empowers them to develop unforgettable, immersive stories, and inspires us all to do the same.â€
