Legendary releases VR preview of Warcraft movie

The Legendary app offers a ride on a flying gryphon over the city of Stormwind.

On Thursday, Legendary Pictures released a preview of the upcoming Warcraft movie — as a virtual reality app for Google Cardboard. Download the iPhone app here and the Android app here.

The film, based on Blizzard’sÂ World of Warcraft massively multi-player online roleplaying game, is due out next summer.

Don’t have a Google Cardboard? Legendary PicturesÂ is giving 20 of them away to those who share a promotional Facebook post. And 50,000 more to Comic-Con attendees this week.

The app works great on the latest smartphones. But even though the ride over the city is pretty short, be prepared for a large download.

The app does not contain any film footage, but digital scenes created for the experience.

The app also includes two other experiences, “Beware Crimson Peak,” a preview of this fall’sÂ Crimson Peak horror movie, and “Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot,” which puts youÂ intoÂ the Pacific Rim movie, which came out last year — and which has a sequel slated for 2017.
